Annual Conference Short Courses

Hopefully you are planning to join us for our Annual Conference and 50th Anniversary Celebration in Lake Tahoe April 22-24, 2020.

We have three opportunities for you to add education to this year's conference with our short courses held Wednesday April 22nd. The short courses require separate registration from the Annual Conference but will be held at the same venue, the Resort at Squaw Creek, Olympic Valley, CA.

Technical Courses:

Wednesday April 22nd 8am-12pm

Settlement Analysis using Settle

Presented by Thamer Yacoub, Rocscience

Dr. Yacoub received his Ph.D. in1999 in Civil Engineering, University of Toronto, Canada. He is a registered professional engineer in Ontario, Canada. His areas of interest include rock and soil mechanics, numerical modeling, slope stability, geotechnical numerical analysis (boundary element, finite element), settlement analysis, and groundwater flows.

The objective of this course is to provide hands-on training on settlement analysis on practical examples using Settle.

Module I: Model building
•    Model setup
•    Importing boreholes
•    Modelling loads and embankments
•    Modeling ground improvements and wick drains

Module II: Selection of analysis methods
•    Stress computation methods, 2D stress vs 3D stress
•    Settlement analysis methods
•    Data interpretation and reporting

Module III: CPT & Liquefaction analysis
•    Input data
•    Data interpretation and reporting

Analysis of Supported Slopes using Slide2 and RSPile

Presented by Thamer Yacoub, Rocscience

The objective of this course is to provide hands-on training on the analysis of supported slopes using various Slide2 support options and the integrated soil-structure pile analysis program RSPile.

Module I: Slope Model building using Slide2
•    Model setup (Tips and Pitfalls)
•    Importing boreholes and sections (from Slide3 section cut)
•    Modelling supports

Module II: Pile analysis using RSPile
•    Input data
•    Lateral, Axial, Driven, and Group pile analysis
•    Data interpretation and reporting

Module III: Coupled Slope stability analysis with piles
•    Integrating pile analysis with slope stability analysis
•    Data interpretation and reporting
