You've just received a CPT report with some squiggly lines and data. Maybe even collected dissipation tests and shear wave data. Now what??
Join us for a half day short c ourse with the CPT "Guru" himself, Dr. Peter K. Robertson, to get all your questions answered. Dr. Robertson will use example data and walk you throug h how to analyze CPT data using commercially available software. No license required! Even if you have your own spreadsheets, this course will help yo u identify poor quality data, what can go wrong, what it means when things don't "agree" and more.
From interpretation of dissipation tests, sei smic data, to liquefaction; we'll fit as much as we can into a half-day "CP T boot-camp."
Join us on Friday November 8th in Pleasanton, CA for th is half-day short course including a buffet breakfast at the host hotel, Hy att House. Parking is free for all attendees. Please plan on bringing a lap top computer so you can follow along with the real-world examples using the popular Geologismiki software programs, CPeT-IT (CPT Interpreation) and Cl iq (Liquefaction analysis).
This is a hands-on d emonstration so please bring a laptop with the software or a tr ial version installed. Visit Geologismiki's website to download a free trial.
CPeT-IT takes Cone Penetration Test raw data and performs basic interpre tation in terms of Soil Behaviour Type (SBT) and various other geotechnical parameters using the current published correlations based on the comprehen sive review by Lunne, Robertson and Powell (1997), as well as recent update s by Professor Robertson.
CLiq is a soil liquefaction software that a
ddresses advanced issues such as cyclic softening in clay-like soils and th
in layer/layer transition zone detection. CLiq provides results and plots f
or each calculation step, starting with the basic CPT data interpretation t
hrough to final plots of factor of safety, liquefaction potential index and
post-earthquake displacements, both vertical settlement and lateral displa
cements. CLiq provides consistent output results by applying the state-of-t
he-art NCEER method (Youd et al, 2001) along with the calibrated procedures
for post-earthquake displacements by Zhang et al (2002 & 2004). It als
o includes the latest assessment procedure developed by Robertson (2009) wh
ich is applicable to all soil type combining a check for cyclic liquefactio
n (sands) and cyclic softening (clays)
A unique 2D feature provi
des a means of creating colorful contour maps of the overall liquefaction p
otential index (LPI) and post-earthquake vertical settlements in plan view
thus allowing the user to visualize the spatial variation of liquefaction p
otential and settlements across a site. The variations of calculated post-e
arthquake settlements across a site allow estimates of differential settlem
ents for a given site and design earthquake.
A parametric analys
is feature allows the user to vary both the earthquake magnitude and surfac
e acceleration to evaluate the sensitivity of both the overall liquefaction
potential index and post-earthquake settlements as a function of earthquak
e loading and results are presented in a 3D graphical form.
