California Earthquake Clearinghouse Virtual Workshops

You are invited to attend a workshop to learn more about the California Earthquake Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse facilitates the gathering and dissemination of post-earthquake information collected by scientists, engineers, sociologists, and economists conducting field investigations in the affected area. The Clearinghouse was most recently activated following the 2019 Ridgecrest Earthquake Sequence.

This two-hour virtual workshop will include presentations from the California Geological Survey, the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, and the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services. By attending this workshop, you will learn:

  • How the clearinghouse works and when it is activated
  • Who is involved in the Clearinghouse
  • How field investigation information is collected and shared
  • How the Disaster Service Worker Program applies to Clearinghouse volunteers
  • What the Safety Assessment Program (SAP) is and how its mission differs from the Clearinghouse

The workshop will be offered two times:

The California Post-Earthquake Information Clearinghouse was established in 1972 to provide State and Federal disaster response managers, affected agencies, and the scientific community with prompt information on ground failure, structural damage, and other consequences of a significant seismic event. The California Geological Survey serves of Chair of the Clearinghouse and EERI serves as Vice Chair. The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, USGS, and the California Seismic Safety Commission serve as managing partners for the Clearinghouse.

Following a damaging earthquake, the California Post-Earthquake Clearinghouse is a location where engineers, geologists, seismologists, sociologists, economists, and other professionals who arrive in the affected area can become part of a larger, temporary organization (the Clearinghouse) to facilitate and coordinate the gathering of information and maximize its availability.
