Dr. Peter Robertson, Professor Emeritus, University of Alberta

Peter has over 30 years experience as an educator, researcher, consultant and practitioner specializing is in the areas of in-situ testing of soils, earthquake design of geotechnical structures, soil liquefaction, pile design and soil structure interaction. Dr. Robertson is recognized as an expert both nationally and internationally in the areas of in situ testing and soil liquefaction. He was the Principal Investigator of the Canadian Liquefaction Experiment (CANLEX) from 1993 to 2000, a $2 million collaborative project between industry, universities, and consulting engineers to study the characterization of sand for liquefaction analysis. Dr. Robertson has been a consultant to various industrial clients and insurance companies in North America, Asia and Europe for projects involving liquefaction evaluation for major structures, stability of onshore and offshore structures, landslides, stability of natural slopes and tailings dams, deep foundations and use and interpretation of in-situ tests.

Peter has been with Gregg Drilling for the past 16-years as a member of the CPT quality assurance and quality control team, reviewing the CPT reports produced daily. In addition, he is actively involved in training staff and research and development of new tools, equipment and software.

He spearheaded a partnership with a software company, Geologismiki to create CPeT-IT, a CPT interpretation software program and CLiq, a CPT liquefaction software program.

Dr. Richard Laton, Associate Professor, Cal State Fullerton & President of Earth Forensics

Dr. Laton is an expert in the field of hydrology and hydrogeology. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences, Cal State University Fullerton. This is a continuation of a career that includes years of teaching, consulting, litigation support and management experience. Dr. Laton possesses extensive knowledge in the areas of hydrogeology, soil and water contamination, hydrology and surface water, wetlands, coastal monitoring/geomorphology, field sampling techniques, well hydraulics, as well as environmental remote sensing/GIS. His classes at the university encompass such topics as: water quality, environmental sampling, groundwater modeling, well hydraulics, oceanography, and basic geology. Dr. Laton consults for a variety of private companies and public agencies that need input on the above subjects in addition to natural hazard assessment and mapping.

Dr. Laton is a Certified Professional Hydrogeologist in California and Washington; and a Certified Professional Geologist in thirteen states: Alaska | Arizona | California | Florida | Illinois | Indiana | Minnesota | New York | North Carolina | Oregon | Pennsylvania | Texas | Washington
