Project Award Honorable Mention: Cal Engineering & Geology acknowledged for Zone 7 Chain of Lakes Facility #1 Stabilization Project
|
Zone 7 - Chain of Lakes Facility #1 Stabilization Project
The Zone 7 Water Agency’s Chain of Lakes Facility #1 was constructed in 2009. In 2013, Zone 7 noticed pavement cracking and separations at the facility significant enough to warrant periodic surveying and the installation of an inclinometer. In 2016 CE&G completed a preliminary evaluation of the distress. CE&G was then authorized to complete additional subsurface investigation and analyses that resulted in determining that the grading limits of gravel mining in the area were larger than previously assumed and had extended below the site. As a result, the site was located on fill which varied in depth up to 100 feet. A team led by CE&G was selected for design of stabilization measures. The team developed several alternatives and met with Zone 7 to discuss the alternatives. The CE&G team designed an underpinning system that was installed in 2019 along with two additional inclinometers for ongoing monitoring at the site.
