After an extensive search, we have hired a new Executive Director team of Nick Bundra and Crystal Thomas, CAE,of Management Connection. Nick and Crystal will begin transitioning with Kelly starting November 1st through the end of the year.
Nick and Crystal have extensive experience managing associations similar to CalGeo and their team at Management Connection can provide an extensive support network that CalGeo needs to thrive and grow moving forward. Please feel free to reach out to Crystal ([email protected]) or Nick ([email protected]) to address any of your CalGeo needs and to welcome them.

Exploring the CalGeo Website: Series #2

There is so much on CalGeo's website that we bet you don't know about! That is why each month, we will post a new tidbit about our website right here. Small, bite-sized info to give you the tools to become a SUPER-MEMBER!

TIP #1: Find a Geotech Near You Search

This is our #1 asked about feature! Yes, we do receive calls from the general public looking for soils reports or referrals. Make sure that your area of specialty is checked off in you profile so that you appear in the search.

TIP #2: Update your profile

If you need to update your profile to show a new address, include your areas of specialization (for the above Find a Geotech search) and other updates:

  • Click the Member Login button at the top right of our website
  • Login with your Email and password
  • Click on Member Portal under Quick Links
  • Click on the My Profile link under your name-badge
  • Scroll down below your photo (if you have one) and the text boxes to the area that shows your contact information
  • Click the edit button to update your information

Did you know? Key-contacts for organizations can un-link employees under their company account and add new employees! They can also register "Linked profiles" for various events and keep everyone under the same invoice!

New Instrumentation Short Course: Level up on Piezometers

Our members have been asking for more courses on instrumentation and we immediately went to Rob Clark at Geokon for his expertise. In 2020 Rob lead a 2-part short course series on inclinometers that was very successful. This course was recorded and the recordings can be purchased here >>

This new virtual course will focus on piezometers and include: background, installation techniques, quality control in the field, data collection and processing.

Cost: $40/CalGeo members, $95/non-members

Other upcoming courses you don't want to miss...

Loss Prevention Seminar: Training for your field engineers/technicians/inspectors. Now certified as a provider through ICC!

Don't miss this once-a-year event! We provide 4-hours of Professional Development with ICC credit. This training is critical for your field staff.

Always a great reminder on QAQC procedures and will save you $$$ by preventing possible legal exposure and safety over-sights.

Full Length 15-week PSHA Course: Looking for a deep dive into Probabalistic Seismic Hazard Analysis? Dr. Norm Abrahamson with UC Berkeley/Davis is offering his full-length university course to CalGeo again this spring. This year the course will NOT be held at UC Berkeley and we anticipate some student interest. We will reserve space for practitioners ONLY until January 10th so register early. Only 25-spots and the course sold out last year!

This course will follow the same outline as Dr. Abrahamson's course at UC Berkeley that is held every 2-years with the following differences:

  • Course will be tailored to practicing engineers and practical applications
  • 45-hr professional development certificate of completion at the end for all attendees. No university course credit.
  • Cost savings compared to auditing a UC Berkeley class
  • Available to anyone! Practitioners get early access ahead of current students.
  • Sessions will be recorded to allow for flexible learning accommodating a work schedule

Time: 11am - 12:30pm

Format: Virtual. Zoom meeting lectures will be recorded if you miss a class. Assignments and notes will be posted on a shared Google drive.
